Michelle Obama – Basis for Her “Not Proud” Statement

In Milwaukee on Monday, Michelle Obama said: “Let me tell you, for the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country. ”

Michelle Obama’s views of her country were shaped first by her experiences in college and law school, but most importantly, by her long-term exposure to the teachings of her church.  Don’t believe her church teachings shape members opinions, take a hard look at the web site for Trinity Church and their values.

The following are directly from the site:

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian… Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain “true to our native land,” the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:

  1. A congregation committed to ADORATION.
  2. A congregation preaching SALVATION.
  3. A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
  4. A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
  5. A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
  6. A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
  7. A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
  8. A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
  9. A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
  10. A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.

  2. For the record, let me say that I was first to say what Ms. Obama said. I said it a full month befor she said it. It has nothing to do with bing patriotic. I’m a U.S. Marine and I love my country. Yet this country has been disappointing for minorities (mainly African Americans) for many generations. To the critics of Ms. Obama, don’t pretend you don’t know that. To exist is one thing, but to exist with pride and ecceptance is another. What Ms. Obama was expirencing in her speach was pride and ecceptance. Pride in being an american and joy of being eccepted by all of america (mainly white america). For the first time in my adult life, I see that the racist people in america has become the minority and it feels good. The people with love in their heart has not only become the majority but is no longer afraid of what the minority will think of them if they speak their heart out loud. The overwhelming vote for Sen. Obama proves it. It also speaks volume to the hearts of African American People, to minorities in the U.S. and to people all over the world. Never has this happened before. So to say “For the first time I am really proud of my country” is an understatement with “really” being the word to focus on. Then maybe you will have the true meaning of what she said. Please don’t change Ms. Obama’s words to match your unchanging heart. Have a great day america, I have never been as proud of you as I am now in my adult life.

  3. Obama is our Savior. The Obama’s will use this glorious opportunity to educate evil, racist americans – all of us, to bring about change. Let us work together to give someone opppressed like Michelle Obama something to be proud about when it comes to america. Barak can treaty with our muslim brothers and apolgize and right the many wrongs an arrogant america has committed.

  4. Flat out – she is a racist. If you are to stop racism
you need stop practicing it yourself. I will not be
voting for Obama based on his stance on
taxes – not on the color of his skin. I am Latin, gay and
Jewish and I was raised in an extremely poor family.
I recall not having money for food when I was a kid,
but my parents refused to go on welfare.
It has not been easy for me either. Everyone has their cross to bear. So Michele and black America needs to get over themselves. When Obama looses everyone will be saying it is because of race. It will not be that at all. It will be because he wants this country to be based
    on socialism not capitalism.
